The short answer
How many cold calls should I make a day? The median SDR makes about 44 phone dials a day, and 56 on phone-focused teams. Enterprise sellers often aim lower, around 30 to 50, and high-volume transactional sellers aim higher, around 80 to 100. Start from your own baseline and aim for about 20% above it.
What the data says
Two sources give a useful picture. They measure different things, so read them side by side and don’t combine them.

What teams aim for
Tenbound Research, Jan 2025
The first is a survey of 351 B2B companies, so it is a snapshot of what reps do, not a test of what works. The second is a rule of thumb by sales type, and the source does not disclose a sample size.
Why the numbers differ
Because the job differs. A rep selling a low-cost product to many small buyers lives on volume. A rep selling to a handful of large accounts does more research per call, makes fewer calls and expects each conversation to be worth more. Neither is wrong. Both are answering a different question.
Volume or quality?
Dials are only half the story. In Gong’s analysis of 300M+ cold calls, as reported by SalesHive, the average rep connects on 5.4% of dials and the top quartile on 13.3%. That is more than double the rate. The top reps are not simply dialing more; they are calling better numbers at better times with better openers.
So a target that counts only dials can push a rep toward worse calls. Count dials, conversations and meetings, and look at them together.
How to set your number
- Run two normal weeks. Use a call block with a timer. Don’t change anything yet.
- Count three things per block. Dials, conversations and meetings. The free call-block timer does it for you.
- Set the target about 20% above your baseline. It is a stretch you can reach, and it is our coaching rule of thumb, not a study.
- Find your best hours. A number is easier to hit when the calls connect. The best-time section has a private log for it.
- Review after two more weeks. If conversations rose with dials, raise the target. If not, fix the call before adding volume.
Count dials, not yeses. A dial you made is a win. A “no” is just the cost of the next conversation.
